Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a relatively new, focused psychotherapy treatment method for working with trauma developed by David Grand, Ph. D. The process utilizes an eye position, body cues and "Bio-lateral" sound to process and release the symptoms and experiences stored in the unconscious mind and the body. The position of the eye brainspot is related to the energy/emotion calming activation in the brain, as well as, a different spot related to the activation of trauma/emotionally charged issues stored in the brain. The goal of the process is to use the body cues to locate, identify, process and release trauma which has been stored in the body both emotionally and/or as physical body pain. Brainspotting acts as a neurobiological tool to facilitate the healing process in a nurturing therapeutic environment.

Brainspotting is very effective with post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. Brainspotting can be used for enhancing "peak performance" by overcoming the unconscious blocks that deter the person from reaching their maximum success.

Thought Field Therapy

Thought Field Therapy was developed, in the 1980's, by Roger Callahan, Ph.D. It is also referred to as Energy Psychology, Emotional Freedom Techniques or Tapas Acupressure Technique, all of which utilize a tapping technique.

The process of Though Field Therapy utilizes a tapping technique, done by the client, directed by the therapist, on certain acupressure points located on meridian points of the body. Based on the "ancient Chinese philosophy of chi, which is thought to be the life force that flows throughout the body", the tapping releases the energy blocks that have cause negative emotions. Depending on the symptoms a series of acupressure points are tapped on to release the anxiety or trauma. There is a different series of tapping points depending on the issue at hand such as anxiety, panic, phobia, addiction, etc.

Over the years I have incorporated this therapy with other therapies when working with anxiety, phobias and addictions. It can also be helpful for enhancing "peak performance".

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a proven psychotherapy developed by Francine Shapiro, Ph. D. as a new type of therapy to process and desensitize a person's symptoms that have resulted from a traumatic event. The process uses rapid rhythmic eye movements as an effective method to by-pass the conscious mind to release the negative effect of the trauma stored in the unconscious brain and body.

It is practiced throughout the world for post traumatic stress and when people can't let go of a past event or trauma. It's efficacy has been studied throughout the world. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, Harvard Medical School, has studied the traumatized brain before and after treatment by using PET scan. He has noted, in several books on traumatic stress, that the brain changes after any effective treatment.

EMDR is also a useful therapy for anxiety, depression, addiction, and "peak performance" ( by overcoming the unconscious blockades that prevent you from achieving your highest level of success in athletics and life.)
